Vision

Every Maryland student will master mathematical procedural skills; develop conceptual understandings and the ability to apply those understandings in solving real-world problems at a level needed to fulfill personal goals and become a productive member of a global society.

Mission

Provide leadership, technical assistance, guidance and support to local school systems as they work to continually improve the teaching and learning of mathematics.

Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) for Mathematics

The Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) for Mathematics define what students should understand and be able to do in their study of mathematics.

The standards are presented in a crosswalk format, displaying the new standards alongside their previous versions to clearly highlight shifts in content and instructional focus.

Standard Companion Guides are also available for Grades PreK-8 and are intended to support implementation of instructional materials. These documents highlight connections to prior and subsequent learning, provide examples and clarifications, recommend student learning experiences, and identify connections to modeling, reasoning, and financial literacy.

Educators may also use the Numeracy Development Framework (NDF) - PDF - 354.87 KB to support the implementation of instructional materials. The NDF provides the core grade-level competencies that form the foundation for numeracy development from PreK through Grade 8, supporting algebra readiness and access to college and career mathematics opportunities. MSDE created NDF User Guides to support stakeholders in using the NDF in their context.

Professional Learning Opportunity

Engage in the professional learning modules to deepen your understanding of the revised standards and prepare for implementation.

MCCRS Mathematics Revision Process

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) convened the Standards and Frameworks Validation Committee: Mathematics (SFVC Math) to review, refine, and develop mathematics standards that promote a clear and consistent progression from PreK through high school. The Revised Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) for Mathematics were adopted by the Maryland State Board of Education on July 29, 2025.
